Discover San Diego: Your Ultimate Guide with Remote Vans®
San Diego is one of our favorite cities on the west coast! A pleasant temperature year round, the beach & mountains all in one lively city. Perfect for a weekend getaway or even a whole week trip, San Diego is jam packed with hikes, beaches, city attractions, and some of the best food. Here are some of our favorite spots throughout San Diego.
Must-Visit Attractions
Point Loma – Cabrillo National Monument
Point Loma is a great place to see San Diego from above! We love starting out our trip at the national monument as you can be as active or not so active here. There are hiking trails that have stunning views of the ocean and the city. Don’t miss the tide pools, where you can see marine life during low tide. You can tour the lighthouse and learn about its history here. It is $20 per vehicle to enter to see the national monument and all the things around it. Our personal favorite is watching the sailboats go by in the bay below as you hike!
Pacific Beach
Pacific Beach, often known as “PB,” is perfect for sunbathing, surfing, and people-watching. Stroll along the boardwalk, grab a bite at one of the beachside cafes, or catch a stunning sunset on the beach.
Seaport Village
Seaport Village is fun for all ages, especially for families. Seaport village is home to the Seaport Village Carousel, which was hand-carved in 1895 and is still in use today! This waterfront shopping and dining destination features charming boutiques, art galleries, and an array of restaurants with great views of the harbor.
Balboa Park
No trip to San Diego is complete without a visit to Balboa Park. This cultural hub is home to world-class museums, beautiful gardens, and the iconic San Diego Zoo. Spend a day exploring the park’s trails and attractions, and be sure to check out the stunning architecture of the buildings.
Annie’s Slot Canyon
For a unique hiking experience, venture to Annie’s Slot Canyon. This hidden gem offers stunning narrow passageways and beautiful rock formations. It’s a great spot for a bit of adventure away from the crowds.
La Jolla Cove
La Jolla Cove is famous for the seals/sea lions that sunbathe on the rocks of the cove. Take a kayak tour to explore the sea caves or simply relax on the beach and watch the sea lions basking in the sun.
Coronado Island
Take a short ferry ride to Coronado Island, where you can enjoy pristine beaches and the iconic Hotel del Coronado. Rent a bike to explore the island or simply relax on the beach with stunning views of downtown San Diego. Coronado is always our favorite part of the trip, make sure to stop by Clayton’s Diner.
Navy Ship Tour
Experience a piece of military history with a visit to the USS Midway Museum. This aircraft carrier turned museum offers fascinating exhibits and the chance to explore various aircraft, making it a hit for both history buffs and families.
Padres Game
If you’re a sports fan, catch a San Diego Padres game at Petco Park. The atmosphere is electric, and enjoying a game in such a beautiful setting is a must-do for any visit to San Diego.
San Diego Zoo
One of the best zoos in the world, the San Diego Zoo is home to over 3,500 animals. Spend the day wandering through the exhibits and learning about conservation efforts. It’s an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages!
Torrey Pines Hike
For outdoor enthusiasts, the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve offers incredible hiking trails with breathtaking ocean views. The trails range in difficulty, so there’s something for everyone. Our favorite is starting the hike on the top of Torrey Pines and hiking down to the beach!
Our Favorite Bites
The Donut Bar
Known for their creative flavors and mouth-watering pastries, this local favorite will satisfy any sweet tooth. Make sure to get there early as the line can be out the door on the weekends! Our favorite is their pop tart donut!
Seneca
Some of the best Italian food we had was at Seneca, located downtown San Diego. Their rooftop has an incredible atmosphere, and we recommend making a reservation as far in advance as possible!
