REMOTE VANS FAQS
ABOUT
Q: Where is Remote Vans located?
A: Remote Vans® HQ is based in Cincinnati, OH. All our adventure vans are proudly designed and built right here in the Queen City.
Q: Do you do walk-ins?
A: We don’t accommodate walk-ins at our HQ facility: visits are by appointment only. We’d love to show you around and introduce you to our adventure vans in person, so please reach out to schedule a time. To book a visit, email us at hq@remotevans.com.
Q: What makes Remote Vans different from other pre-built adventure vans?
A: Remote Vans are purpose-built for real-world, four-season adventure travel and not just weekend camping. Every van in our lineup is fully self-contained and ready to go from day one, with no additional fit-out needed. We build exclusively on the Sprinter 144″, fit our proprietary MoPoWa™ Power and Water Systems as standard, and include premium touches like the Vanhalla™ swing seat: an adventure van industry first. Whether you’re a retired couple planning an Arctic road trip or a family heading to the national parks, our vans are engineered to handle it all comfortably and reliably.
Q: What is the difference between a Remote Van and a Class B RV?
A: A Class B RV is built on a standard van chassis and tends to prioritize campground comfort over genuine adventure capability. Remote Vans are in a different category entirely. Built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144″, our vans are engineered for four-season, off-grid adventure travel. They’ve been tested from scorching Texas summers to sub-zero Arctic conditions. With our MoPoWa™ Power and Water Systems, industry-leading insulation, and premium components throughout, a Remote Van gives you the freedom to go further and stay longer, without sacrificing comfort. Think of it less as an RV and more as a high-performance adventure vehicle you can also sleep in beautifully.
Q: Why choose a Remote Van over a custom van conversion?
A: Custom van conversions can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months, cost significantly more once all components are sourced and fitted, and leave you managing the quality of each individual part yourself. With a Remote Van, you’re buying a fully engineered, road-tested adventure van that’s ready to drive. Every system: power, water, insulation, climate control, and connectivity, has been designed to work together from the ground up. For people who want to spend their time traveling, not building, a Remote Van is the smarter choice.
ADVENTURE VANS
Q: Do you build on the 170″ Sprinter? What about on the Ford Transit?
A: At this time, we build exclusively on the Sprinter 144″. After extensive testing and refinement, we’ve found it to be the ideal platform for our system designs, build quality standards, and the driving experience our customers love. It’s nimble enough for city driving and national park roads, yet spacious enough to live and travel in comfortably.
Q: Are these vans truly 4-season adventure vans?
A: Yes, Remote Vans are true 4-season adventure vehicles, tested in real-world extremes from scorching Texas summers to sub-zero temperatures at the Arctic Circle. Every van comes with industry-leading insulation as standard. For summer travel, a powerful Nomadic Cooling A/C unit combined with a MaxxAir fan keeps the interior cool and comfortable. For winter, an upgraded Rixon system with dual blowers delivers serious heating capacity. Whether you’re exploring national parks in July or heading north in January, you can travel with genuine confidence year-round.
Q: How many people can sleep in a Remote Van?
A: Up to four people can sleep comfortably in a Remote Van. The legless, queen-sized bed easily sleeps two adults, while the innovative Vanhalla™ swing seat converts to accommodate two smaller children. It’s a setup that works beautifully for retiring couples and young families alike, giving everyone a proper night’s sleep without the van feeling cramped.
Q: How is the bed set up in these adventure vans? How is it orientated?
A: Our queen-sized bed system has an East/West orientation and a unique legless, bascule (drawbridge) design — meaning it folds up to reveal a generous, unobstructed garage space beneath. No bed legs means no wasted space, so you have plenty of room to store extra gear, bikes, and equipment without compromise.
Q: What is the seat setup in these vans?
Alongside the driver and passenger seats in the cab, every Remote Van includes the Vanhalla™ seat: the adventure van industry’s first-ever 90° swing, rotating two-person sleeper seat. Developed by Remote Vans® (patent pending) and fully tested to meet all FMVSS safety regulations, the Vanhalla™ offers six positions including Chill, Sleep, Sunset, and Travel. By swinging into different positions, you can open up more space when cooking, create a communal atmosphere at dinner, or simply sit back and enjoy the view after a long day on the road.
Q: Can I store bikes in the garage of this adventure van?
A: Absolutely. The legless bed design creates generous, unobstructed garage space that works brilliantly for bikes. Several of our owners have added custom slide-out trays to make loading and unloading even easier, and some have managed to fit up to three bikes in the garage. If cycling is part of your adventure plans, a Remote Van has you covered.
Q: What is the Power System set up in these vans?
A: All Remote Vans adventure vans are fitted with the MoPoWa™ Power System: our proprietary, fully integrated power setup designed to be the most efficient in any Class B van. The system supports three ways to charge: the supplied shore power cable for campsite hookups, a low idle rapid charging alternator/generator, and roof-mounted solar panels for true off-grid power. Combined with our premium insulation and high-performance A/C system, the MoPoWa™ Power System means you’re genuinely self-sufficient wherever the road takes you. For full specs and details by variant, visit the individual van pages on our website.
Q: Is the Remote Vans power system efficient?
A: Yes, efficiency was at the heart of how we designed the MoPoWa™ Power System and the surrounding van. We’ve optimized every component to work together, from the solar panels and charging alternator to the A/C unit and insulation. The result is a van that stays comfortable and connected for extended periods with efficient use of power and without needing to rely on a single power source. For detailed specs by Series visit our adventure van pages.
Q: How many nights of A/C runtime are there?
Each Remote Van is fitted with a Nomadic Cooling Air Conditioner, a powerful yet compact unit purpose-built for van life. Our owners enjoy multiple nights (3+) of off-grid A/C comfort on a single charge, with exact runtime varying depending on conditions and the specific variant. For precise figures for the Series you’re considering, visit the individual van pages on our website or ask your nearest Remote Vans dealer.
Q: Do these vans have an efficient water system?
A: Every Remote Van includes our proprietary MoPoWa™ Water System, featuring a fresh water tank and gray tank for complete off-grid capability. We use superior quality PEX-A plumbing with compression and brass fittings throughout: chosen for their reliability, durability, and long-term performance. This means you can camp freely without needing hookups, whether you’re at a remote national park, exploring the Arctic, or parked up somewhere completely off the grid. For full specifications on tank capacity and system details for each variant, visit our adventure van pages or speak with your nearest Remote Vans dealer.
Q: How does Starlink™ work on these adventure vans? Do I need to set up the account?
A: Certain Remote Vans Sereis — including the Aegis — come fitted with a Starlink™ HP dish, giving you fast, reliable internet connectivity even in remote locations. To activate the service, you’ll need to set up your own Starlink™ account directly with Starlink™. It’s a quick and straightforward process, and your dealer will be happy to walk you through it at the point of handover so you’re fully connected from day one.
Q: How Can I Charge Up One Of Your Vans?
A: There are 3 ways to charge up your van. You can use the supplied shore power cable and connect to a power source, the low idle rapid charging alternator/generator, or the roof-mounted solar panels. This means you’re rarely dependent on a single source of power.”
Q: Do you allow me to customize or personalise my van?
A: While our vans come as fully specified, ready-to-go adventure vehicles, you can personalize the look and feel through our branding kit. This covers exterior and interior accent colors throughout the van, including the kitchen drawers, water and power box panels, cabinet inlays, and the mounts for the Pennyworth Van Control System. It’s a great way to make your Remote Van feel uniquely yours. For the full range of options, visit our branding kit page.
Q:Are Remote Vans suitable for retired couples or solo travelers?
A: Absolutely, in fact, retiring and retired adventurers are some of our most passionate owners. A Remote Van is designed to make extended travel genuinely comfortable and stress-free. The queen-sized bed, full climate control, off-grid power and water systems, and Starlink™ connectivity mean you have everything you need for weeks or months on the road without relying on campground hookups. Whether you’re planning a national parks road trip, an Arctic adventure, or a long coastal drive, a Remote Van is built for exactly that kind of travel.
Q: Are Remote Vans suitable for families with young children?
A: Yes, a Remote Van works beautifully for families with young children. The Vanhalla™ seat can accommodate two smaller children, while the queen-sized bed comfortably sleeps two adults. The van’s self-contained setup means no stressful campsite hookups, and the off-grid power and water systems keep everyone comfortable wherever you are. Many of our family owners tell us it’s completely changed how they travel, making national park road trips and outdoor adventures far more accessible and enjoyable with kids in tow.
Q: Can I live in a Remote Van full time?
A: Many of our owners do exactly that. The MoPoWa™ Power and Water Systems, Starlink™ connectivity, full climate control, and generous storage make a Remote Van genuinely liveable for extended periods. Whether you’re a retiree spending months exploring the country or a family taking an extended sabbatical, the van is designed to keep you comfortable, connected, and self-sufficient for the long haul.
Q: Is a Remote Van easy to drive?
A: Yes, and this is something many of our new owners are pleasantly surprised by. The Sprinter 144″ is noticeably more manageable than larger RVs and motorhomes. It fits in standard parking spaces, handles well on winding national park roads, and doesn’t require a special license to drive. If you’re comfortable behind the wheel of a larger vehicle, you’ll adapt to a Remote Van quickly. Most of our owners feel confident after just a short drive.
Q: What happens if something goes wrong on the road?
A: Your Remote Van is backed by both our dealer network and our dedicated support team.
