Discover Key West: Your Ultimate Adventure Awaits with Remote Vans®

Key West is a dream destination for not only many Americans, but for vacationers all across the globe, and for good reason. Key West is the southernmost point of the United States, and is just a mere 90 miles from Cuba. The island is 4 by 2 miles, yet is packed with countless things to do for all ages!

While Key West is known to have an amazing 21+ scene (and it does!), it is still a great vacation spot for those who aren’t quite yet 21! Let’s break down some of our favorite things we did on our Key West trips, with the perspective from our Rolling Nomads who live there part of the year.

Explore the Island by Bike

One of the best ways (and my favorite way!) to explore the island by bike. Since the island is small in size, you can bike around the whole island in a day or over the course of your trip. We love doing this at the beginning of our trip so that way we know which spots we want to explore more. Some of our favorite spots to cruise by are:

  • The Southernmost Point Buoy
  • Hemingway Museum
  • The Butterfly Observatory
  • Mile Marker Zero Sign
  • Mallory Square
  • Truman Little White House
  • Smathers Beach
  • Duval Street: the main strip in town, so much to see and do here!

These spots are great to check out if you have more time to explore them on their own!

Sunset Cruise

Nothing compares to the stunning sunsets in Key West. A sunset cruise is a must-do activity. There are a handful of companies that have scheduled sunset cruises that you can book ahead of time. We loved the Blu Q Catamaran one!

Kayak with Manatees in the Mangroves

Kayaking through the Mangroves of Key West was one of our favorite things we did in the late morning each day. The waters were on the calmer side with the Mangrove trees, and you often see Manatees swimming in the waters below you!

National Parks off the Island

We haven’t had the chance to escape to Dry Tortugas National Park but knew it had to be on our list! Accessible only by boat or seaplane, this remote paradise is ideal for snorkeling, birdwatching, and exploring historic Fort Jefferson. Next time we are in Key West, this is on our list for sure!

Beach Day at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park

Our favorite beach on the island is at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. Palm trees, clear waters, and white sand – what more could you ask for?! You’ll often find people setting up picnics and hammocks in the shade, making for a perfect beach day.

Bites & Nightlife

When it comes to dining and nightlife, Key West has something for everyone. Here are our top picks for local eateries and hangouts:

Breakfast Gems

  • Breakfast Club Too: A local favorite for hearty morning meals.
  • Five Brothers: Grab a café con leche and a breakfast sandwich for a quick pick-me-up.
  • Blue Heaven: Famous for its outdoor dining and delicious pancakes.

Lunch and Dinner Spots

  • Santiago’s Bodega: Indulge in tapas and shareable dishes.
  • Hogfish Bar & Grill (on Stock Island): Enjoy fresh seafood with a laid-back vibe.
  • El Siboney: The go-to for authentic Cuban cuisine.

Nightlife Hotspots

  • Green Parrot: Live music and a lively atmosphere.
  • Sloppy Joe’s: A historic bar with great drinks and entertainment.
  • Schooner Wharf Bar: Perfect for enjoying local tunes and a vibrant atmosphere.

Hidden Gems from Our Rolling Nomads

While the popular spots are a must, we also have some hidden gems to share:

  • Harpoon Harry’s: A cash-only spot that serves up delicious breakfasts.
  • The Conch Shack on Duval Street: Don’t miss their famous conch fritters!
  • Key Lime Pie Company: What’s a trip to Key West without Key Lime Pie?!

Driving your Remote Vans Series down to the southernmost point in the United States is something that needs to be on your bucket list. Not only is Key West a great destination, but driving down the Florida Keys is fun in itself! Here is our list of need to know information when you take your Series to Key West:

RV Campsites

Here are a few campsites around the island to park your Remote Vans Series during your stay.

  • Boyd’s Key West Campground: This family-friendly site offers full hookups and is conveniently located just a few miles from downtown. Enjoy amenities like a pool, laundry facilities, and easy access to the beach.
  • Geiger Key Marina: Just outside Key West, his campground offers waterfront views and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a great base for fishing, kayaking, and enjoying sunsets.

Local Grocery Stores and Markets

Heading to a local market to cook fresh food during your stay is one of our favorite things to do! Key West has several local grocery stores and markets where you can stock up on supplies:

  • Fausto’s Food Palace: A local favorite, this grocery store has a great selection of fresh produce, local seafood, and gourmet items.
  • Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe: While known for their famous key lime pie, Kermit’s also stocks a variety of local snacks and treats that you can enjoy around the campfire.
